We are a dedicated group of parents from Osnovna šola Pirniče, taking a proactive stand against the growing influence of smartphones in our children’s lives.
Inspired by the Smartphone-Free Childhood movement from the UK - now in over 32 countries - we are launching a Slovenian chapter, Otroštvo brez pametnih telefonov, to build a nationwide movement.
This growing global movement shows that positive change is possible, and communities of parents working together can help recreate a childhood free from addictive smartphones.
Meet the parents who helped start the Slovenian chapter of Smartphone-Free Childhood.

Childhood initiative to Slovenia.
Why this movement matters
Amy believes that delaying smartphones gives children more space for imagination,
friendships and independent play — and that parents feel stronger when they act
together, not alone.

Our Mission
No matter where we are in the world, parents face the same dilemma:
Give a smartphone, and children are exposed to addictive content, social media pressures, and online risks.
Don’t give one, and children may feel left out among peers.
We believe there’s a better way: coming together as a community to delay smartphones and social media. No parent or child should feel alone, and every family benefits from collective support. We’re not here to judge anyone — we’re here to support each other, ask questions, and share ideas.
Our goal is simple: help parents postpone their child’s first personal smartphone and social media access until (at least) high school.
This isn’t about rejecting technology or turning back time. It’s about saying yes to a childhood of play, real-life experiences, and genuine connections — free from the pull of smartphones.
The more families who wait, the more normal it becomes. Together, we can shift the norm that assumes children should have smartphones simply because everyone else has one.
Building on Slovenia’s new primary school smartphone ban, we go one step further: showing that primary school children truly don’t need smartphones — at school or anywhere else.
By choosing to hold off, we give children back what truly matters: the freedom to be kids.
Our ambassadors help share the message, connect with communities, and support families across Slovenia.
